It's weird. Time seems to go very slowly here, but yet it is already Friday and tomorrow we leave.
Yesterday was shopping and a visit to the Moorea Tropical Garden. I did a walk through the "jungle" to a waterfall that turned out less exceptional than I had hoped but had fun making a video while I traipsed there and back :D J couldn't stand another bug bite so waited for me. I bumped in to some people along the way and they seemed a bit worried I was alone. Why was I not worried??? I just wasn't.
It is so green and lush here - the weather changes constantly. It will rain in a thunderous downpour and the wind howling and then the next it is sunny and calm. You wish for wind as it keeps the mosquitos away.
I've gotten used to our friendly house geckos (lizards?) and had to shoo one from J's bedroom. There is one that lives under the dishwasher and when a fly bumped into my leg and landed on the floor momentarily stunned, the wee gecko ran out and gobbled it up. After realizing our housemates were our bug catchers, I was quite happy to have them around.
The other odd thing is the crabs. They have holes in the sand and in the grass in the yard. Once they spot you they go running. That seems to be the theme here - everything is more afraid of you than you are of it.
They fill in pot holes with sand. The rain washes it away... they put in more sand.
Moorea is like the Hawaiian Islands before they become commercialized. There is nothing bright or flashy here and you kind of have to wander around to find cafes, shopping places, etc. Best idea seems to ask - a lot of things are imported from Indonesia, so you have to ask where is the stuff that is made here.
The big thing here is black pearls. We went to one of the resorts yesterday recommended by the place we are staying (believe the owners of the Robinson's Cove villa know them) - Sofitel. Seemed like a really nice place and everyone very friendly. Can have overwater bungalows or beach or land bungalows. After being here and having our own beach and no one else around, I couldn't imagine staying in a resort.
I can't say I missed doing anything - I came here to relax and I feel very relaxed. Loved the ATV tour and the Lagoonarium - both I would do again. Guess jet skiing will be next time (very expensive). However, trying not to think of the 24 hours it will take to get home. Would I come back? Yes. Would I stay at Robinson's Cove again? Yes. But I'd really try to lessen the travel time!!!
I'm used to the heat now so going back home will be a "shocking" experience :D
Think I've lost at least a few layers of skin due to sand, salt, sun and wind... all totally worth it :)
Oh, a big Princess cruise ship came into the bay today - not all the way in, but enough that it looked huge!
Back to my deck chair now :) (and my 4th book!)
